Danmaliki Expands Access to Education as Dawakin Tofa Sponsors Over 1,100 Students, Youths
The Chairman of Dawakin Tofa Local Government, Hon. Alhaji Anas Mukhtar Bello Danmaliki, has reinforced his administration’s commitment to education and youth empowerment with the sponsorship of over 1,100 students and young people across tertiary institutions, professional colleges and skills acquisition centres.
The intervention, captured in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Scholarship Diary, reflects a deliberate policy by the Danmaliki-led administration to remove financial barriers to education while equipping youths with relevant academic and vocational skills.
According to details released by the Local Government Scholarship Committee, 210 students were sponsored to the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State. Of this number, 160 secured admission into degree programmes, while 50 were enrolled into diploma courses in Health Education.
In support of teacher training, the local government also sponsored 130 students to the Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi, for various Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes. Additionally, 250 students benefited from sponsorship to the Kano State Polytechnic to pursue different National Diploma (ND) programmes.
The Danmaliki administration further demonstrated its commitment to strengthening secondary education by sponsoring 330 students from senior secondary schools across Dawakin Tofa to sit for the 2024/2025 NECO examinations, after they failed to meet the qualifying requirements.
In the health sector, 71 students were sponsored to the Kano State College of Health Sciences and Technology, covering its Kano, Bebeji and School of Hygiene campuses, while six students were sponsored to Bichi Academy for National Diploma programmes in health-related disciplines.
Promoting inclusive education, the local government sponsored 10 students with hearing impairment, who completed junior secondary school in Dawakin Tofa, to the Tudun Maliki School of Special Education for senior secondary education.
Beyond conventional academics, 10 students were sponsored to the Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi, for part-time NCE programmes, while another 10 youths were enrolled at the Aliko Dangote Skills Acquisition Centre, with the programme currently under review.
In a parallel effort to tackle unemployment, the local government sponsored over 110 youths to the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) training programme held at the FCE (T) Bichi Centre. The first batch has completed the programme successfully, while the second batch is currently underway.
Observers say the large-scale scholarship and skills intervention underscores Hon. Danmaliki’s focus on human capital development as a cornerstone of grassroots governance.
