Governor Yusuf Appoints Prof. Amina Salihi Bayero as Vice Chancellor of Northwest University

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the appointment of Professor Amina Salihi Bayero as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Northwest University, effective Monday, 1st December 2025.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson and Director General, Media and Publicity, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, the approval followed the recommendation of the University Council after a rigorous and competitive selection process. Governor Yusuf, who serves as Visitor to the institution, commended the Council Chairman and members for upholding merit, transparency, and integrity throughout the exercise.

He also called for continued prayers for Allah’s guidance as Prof. Bayero assumes leadership of the institution for a five-year tenure.

Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, a renowned scholar of Analytical Chemistry, is celebrated as the first female PhD holder in Chemistry from Bayero University Kano. Her academic career spans several key positions, including Head of Department, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Deputy Vice Chancellor at Yusuf Maitama Sule University.

She is widely respected for her contributions to scientific research, her leadership experience, and her unwavering commitment to mentoring the next generation of scientists. Her emergence as Vice Chancellor is expected to further strengthen academic excellence and enhance gender inclusion within Kano State’s tertiary education system.
