Seven APC Governorship Aspirants Step Down for Bola Oyebamiji After Crucial Meeting With President Tinubu
Seven leading governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State have withdrawn from the race and endorsed Bola Oyebamiji as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the forthcoming APC primary election.
The major breakthrough followed a high-level meeting convened by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where the aspirants were urged to unite behind a single candidate to strengthen party cohesion and improve the APC’s chances in the 2026 governorship election.
Notably absent from the meeting was former National Secretary of the APC, Iyiola Omisore, who reportedly boycotted the session after earlier describing his disqualification from the primary as “a joke.”
Those who agreed to step down in support of Oyebamiji are:
- Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, former Deputy Governor
- Dotun Babayemi, former governorship contender
- Akin Ogunbiyi, business mogul and political figure
- Senator Babajide Omoworare, former lawmaker
- Kunle Adegoke (SAN), legal luminary
- Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, development consultant
- Mulikat Abiola Jimoh, grassroots politician
Sources at the meeting described the atmosphere as frank and strategic, with President Tinubu emphasizing party unity, discipline, and collective responsibility as the APC prepares for a competitive election cycle in Osun.
With this development, Bola Oyebamiji now emerges as the broadly accepted consensus candidate, a move party insiders believe will stabilize the APC structure in the state and signal a more united front ahead of the primaries.
The party is expected to formally communicate the consensus arrangement in the coming days, while stakeholders continue to appeal for calm and cooperation among all factions.
