BREAKING: Tinubu Declares Nationwide Security Emergency, Orders Recruitment of 50,000 Officers
ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency in response to the escalating security challenges across multiple states. In a sweeping directive, the President has ordered the Army and Police to recruit an additional 20,000 officers, bringing the total number of newly authorized personnel to 50,000.
To fast-track capacity building, Tinubu instructed that National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camps nationwide be converted into police training depots. VIP police guards withdrawn from assignments are also to undergo intensive retraining for redeployment to high-risk areas.
In a bid to strengthen intelligence and counter-terrorism operations, the President directed the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately deploy forest guards and recruit additional personnel to flush out terrorists and bandits. He further pledged support to states establishing their own security outfits and called on the National Assembly to commence work on establishing state police.
Addressing communities directly affected by insecurity, Tinubu appealed to herders to end open grazing, adopt ranching practices, surrender illegal weapons, and abide by the law. The President also paid tribute to victims of recent attacks and fallen soldiers, including Brigadier-General Musa Uba, underscoring the human cost of insecurity.
This decisive move signals the administration’s intent to confront the nation’s security crisis with a multi-pronged strategy encompassing manpower expansion, intelligence deployment, state collaboration, and community engagement.
