NICE Honours Governor Yusuf with Fellowship Award for Transforming Kano into Nigeria’s Construction Powerhouse
Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been honoured with the Fellowship of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) — the highest professional recognition in the civil engineering field — for his outstanding contributions to infrastructure renewal and excellence in engineering-driven governance.
The prestigious award was presented to the governor during the Institution’s Annual Conference and General Meeting held in Kano, where engineers, policymakers, and development experts from across the country gathered to discuss innovative strategies for advancing Nigeria’s infrastructure sector.
The event, themed “Building Resilient Infrastructure for National Development,” celebrated notable achievers who have demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and impact in engineering practice and governance.

Presenting the award, the National Chairman of NICE, Engr. Otunba Ajanaku, described Governor Yusuf as “a visionary leader who has turned Kano into the biggest construction yard in Nigeria through people-oriented projects and engineering excellence.”
He praised the governor’s commitment to modern infrastructure delivery and his insistence on quality standards in roads, housing, bridges, drainage, and public facilities across the state.

the governor stated.
“We will continue to uphold the highest engineering standards in all our projects — from roads and bridges to schools, hospitals, and other public facilities that directly impact our people’s lives.”
Governor Yusuf emphasized that infrastructure remains central to his administration’s development vision, which prioritizes access, safety, and functionality for all communities across the 44 local government areas of the state.
He added that every project undertaken by his administration is being supervised by competent engineers to ensure technical compliance, durability, and value for money.
