Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Honors Managing Director, Rural Electrification Agency

The Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) has honored the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Engineer Abba Abubakar Aliyu, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to healthcare support and sustainable energy development in Nigeria.
The event, which took place on Wednesday 8th September 2025 at the headquarters of the Rural Electrification Agency in Abuja, brought together top management staff of the agency, representatives from the health sector, and dignitaries from Kano and beyond.
Presenting the award, the Chief Medical Director of AKTH, Professor Abdurrahman Sheshe, commended Engineer Abba Abubakar Aliyu for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to expanding access to clean, reliable, and affordable electricity across Nigeria.
He noted that the collaboration between AKTH and the REA has significantly enhanced power supply to critical hospital units, including laboratories, theatres, and maternity wards, thereby improving the overall quality of healthcare delivery.
“Reliable electricity supply is vital to the efficient operation of hospitals. Through the intervention of the Rural Electrification Agency, tertiary hospitals like ours have experienced notable improvements in power stability. We deeply appreciate Engineer Abba’s dedication to supporting the health sector through renewable energy initiatives,” Professor Sheshe stated.
In his remarks, Engineer Abba Abubakar Aliyu expressed appreciation to the management of AKTH for the recognition, describing the award as a motivation to do more in bridging Nigeria’s energy gap through sustainable and inclusive electrification projects.
“We are humbled by this honor from one of the country’s leading health institutions. Our vision at REA is to ensure that every Nigerian community, especially health and educational facilities, have access to clean and uninterrupted electricity. We are committed to strengthening partnerships that improve lives,” the REA Managing Director said.
He further emphasized that the Rural Electrification Agency remains focused on promoting renewable energy as a tool for national development, particularly in rural and underserved areas, to enhance healthcare delivery, education, and local economic growth.
