Kwankwaso Hails Success of Kano Reformatory Institute as Former Inmates Thrive in Skilled Trades
Former Kano State Governor and NNPP leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed delight over the transformation of youths who once passed through the Kano State Reformatory Institute, Kiru, describing their success stories as a testament to the enduring impact of the Kwankwasiyya vision.
Kwankwaso made this known on Sunday after receiving a courtesy visit from a group of young men who had earlier been admitted into the institute during his second tenure as Governor between 2011 and 2015.
The institute, first established under his administration from 1999 to 2003, was abandoned by subsequent governments before its revival during his second term. According to Kwankwaso, the visiting delegation revealed that following their rehabilitation at the facility between 2012 and 2015, they are now gainfully employed and contributing meaningfully to society.
“One of them is into interior design and decoration, another into carpentry, while others have established themselves in welding, aluminium works, POP works, and tailoring,” Kwankwaso disclosed.
He noted that their success reflects how the Kwankwasiyya philosophy continues to rebuild lives, restore dignity, and open doors of opportunity for young people in Kano and beyond.
“It was indeed heartwarming to see these youths who once had a troubled past now transformed into skilled professionals. Their visit today is a great honour, and I remain grateful for their show of appreciation,” he said.
The Kano State Reformatory Institute, Kiru, remains one of Kwankwaso’s key social intervention projects, designed to reform and empower wayward youths through education, vocational training, and moral reorientation.
