Riruwai, Century Mining Sign Landmark 5-Year Development Deal

The Kano State Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources has concluded a Community Development Agreement (CDA) between the people of Riruwai and Century Mining Company Limited (CMC), paving the way for major infrastructure and social projects in the host community.

The agreement, finalized on September 8 under the supervision of Commissioner Alhaji Hamza Safiyanu, includes projects such as a 2-million-litre-per-day water treatment plant, rehabilitation of the 20km Riruwai–Doka Road, a town hall and vocational training centre, and N3 million annual scholarships for students.

CMC also pledged to provide N1 million monthly drugs supply to the health centre, employ 15 science teachers, renovate local schools, install solar units, and reserve 50% of semi-skilled, 40% of skilled, and 30% of managerial jobs for Riruwai indigenes. A N100 million community fund and periodic environmental checks were also agreed upon.

CDA Chairman, Engr. Usman Sule Riruwai, FNSE, hailed the deal as a “victory for the people,” assuring that a monitoring committee will enforce full implementation. The agreement now awaits final approval from the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals.

The deal is expected to transform Riruwai’s infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities, setting a benchmark for host-community development in mining areas.
