Mass Defection Rocks Ganduje’s Local Government: Hundreds of APC Supporters Join NNPP Kwankwasiyya

A dramatic turn of events has reshaped the political landscape of Kano State as hundreds of APC supporters, including former aides, councillors, and seasoned APC stalwarts, have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). This mass exodus is a significant blow to Abdullahi Ganduje’s political stronghold in his local government, Dawakin Tofa.
The defection is rooted in growing discontent with Ganduje’s leadership, with residents voicing frustration over unmet promises and failing infrastructure. The decampees cited rampant corruption and ineptitude as reasons for their departure, seeking a change that genuinely cares for the people.
The defectors expressed satisfaction with the NNPP leadership, particularly Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and praised the Director General of Media and Publicity, Sunusi Bature D-Tofa, and the Dawakin Tofa Local Council Chairman, Anas Mukhtar Bello, for their tireless efforts in developing Dawakin Tofa and promoting the Kwankwasiyya ideologies.
The decampees received a warm welcome from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Kano State Government House. Yusuf commended key figures from Dawakin Tofa for their pivotal roles in this transition and expressed his elation over the growing support for the NNPP.

This mass defection poses significant challenges for the APC as its hold on Kano State loosens amidst rising aspirations for transparency and development. With the 2027 gubernatorial elections on the horizon, the NNPP is positioning itself as a formidable force in Kano’s future, poised to make significant gains in the elections.
