Akwa Ibom Police Crackdown: Cultists, Vehicle Thief, and Burglary Suspect Arrested

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified its efforts to clamp down on criminal elements in the state, leading to a series of arrests and recoveries of stolen items. In a recent press release, the command disclosed the arrest of suspected cultists, a vehicle thief, and a burglary suspect.

On July 14, 2025, at about 9:20 pm, police operatives carried out a discreet operation in Ikot Ambon village, arresting two suspected cultists identified as Goodwill Nyong Ekwere, 26, and Obon Asukwo Udom, 33, both from Nung Ukana village. Items recovered from the suspects include ¹:

 One locally made double-barrel gun

-Two live cartridges

 A wrap of substance suspected to be Indian hemp

 ₦200 cash

The suspects confessed to being members of a cult group known as Vikings, and a manhunt has been launched to track down other members still at large.

In a separate case, on July 15, 2025, at about 6:50 am, police operatives arrested Solomon Anthony John, a male from Nsit Ubium LGA, in connection with the theft of a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number UWN 84 XD. The vehicle was recovered and impounded through targeted investigation.

On the same day, at about 5:30 am, the police responded to a distress call at Itiam Bus Stop, along Oron Road in Uyo, where a group of young men were seen moving a split-unit air conditioner suspected to be stolen. One of the suspects, Gift Orji Ogbuji, 24, was arrested after a hot chase. Recovered items include:

-One Samsung split-unit air conditioner

 One petrol dispensing machine suspected to have been stolen by the same gang

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command reassures the public of its readiness to respond promptly to any breach of peace and urges citizens to report suspicious movements or persons around them.
