Civil society organizations in Kano State have demanded explanations from the police over their silence on the attack on the Kano Emir’s Palace, also known as Gidan Rumfa, located in Kofar Kudu within the old city. The attack occurred on Sunday evening when a convoy of the dethroned Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, allegedly clashed with security personnel at the palace.
The palace’s main iron gate was severely vandalized, and police security points were shattered.
A full set of police camouflage uniforms, a pair of police security boots, and a bullet magazine were stolen.
Three individuals were injured, including Maigoma Danagundi, who is currently hospitalized, Yunusa Babba, a security marshal, and Special Constabulary Officer Murtala Muhammad.
The CSOs are calling for an immediate investigation into the attack and destruction of public property.
They demand the identification, arrest, and prosecution of all individuals responsible for the attack.
Recovery of Stolen Assets The CSOs also want the police to recover all stolen assets, especially the missing bullet magazine, which poses a security risk.
They urge the police to ensure the safety and security of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II and his residence through increased deployment of security personnel.
The CSOs described the police’s silence on the incident as “disturbing” and “tantamount to compromising the peace of the state”. They believe this inaction could plunge the state into chaos and uncertainty .
