The Akwa Ibom State Marine Police have successfully repelled a sea pirate attack along the Oron/Calabar waterways. On May 10, 2025, at approximately 12:06 PM, operatives received information about an ongoing attack by seven pirates in a speedboat

The Officer-in-Charge of the Marine Police swiftly mobilized and led operatives to the scene, engaging the pirates in a gunfire exchange. The pirates, sustaining bullet wounds, escaped into a shallow creek inaccessible to police boats.
The police subsequently invaded the pirates’ camp, recovering several items, including:
– One W23 speedboat with a 200HP Yamaha engine gearbox
– Arms and ammunition
– Suspected charms and other incriminating materials
Efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The police are intensifying their investigation to unravel the pirates’ network and bring the perpetrators to justice.
