In a significant move to ensure equitable distribution of development projects and devident of democracy at the grassroot levels, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has engaged 484 elected councillors from the 44 local government areas across the state for a maiden meeting at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
This is made known in a statement made available to newsmen by the governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa in Kano on Sunday.
In his address, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said the meeting was convened to engage with the elected councillors as critical stakeholders to brainstorm on how to execute viable projects in the nooks and crannies of the state.
He added that the State Government is planning to implement projects at the grassroots worth 4.8 billion naira in the areas of schools renovations, drilling of boreholes, building of dispensaries and local scholarship among others.
Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf tasked the councillors to come up with proposals of the projects to be implemented in their localities that have direct bearing to the lives of people at the grassroot levels particularly on education.
The governor also admonished them to maintain cordial relationship with their elected chairmen and remain committement in serving people of their wards to justify the confidence repose on them by the government and people who elected them.
He spoke at length on his government’s effort to transform local government areas including 5 Kilometer roads projects and used the opportunity to commisserate with communities in Shanono and other affected local governments on the recent security unrest assuring that government in collaboration with security agencies are working assiduously to contain the situation.
In a remark, the Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly who was a former councillor of Falgore Ward in Rogo local government, Rt. Hon. Isma’il Jibril Falgore harps on smooth working relationship between the local Councils and chairmen for the overall peaceful running of the local council.
