The Kano State Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, led by Hon. Commissioner Engr. Dr. Gaddafi Sani Shehu, has embarked on a mission to seek financial risk advice from the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sunusi II, on a proposed 40MW
solar-powered plant. The investment aims to enhance power generation capacity using renewable energy, contributing to the state’s clean energy transition and industrial growth.
This new project builds on existing initiatives, such as the 10MW Kano Solar Project in the Challawa Industrial Area, which is functional and generating power. The state government is also pursuing larger-scale renewable energy goals, including the Light-Up Kano Initiative, targeting 2,000MW of solar energy within five years.
The government is actively engaging with investors and international partners to attract up to $10 billion in investments over the next five years, focusing on renewable energy, agriculture, and trade. The meeting with the Emir of Kano highlights the importance of traditional leadership in guiding and supporting major infrastructure investments.
