Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Monday personally led a traffic enforcement exercise at Kofar Fanfo Junction, where he spent more than one hour monitoring and ensuring motorists’ compliance with traffic light signals as part of efforts to restore order and discipline on roads across the state.
The Governor, accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, and other senior government officials, directed motorists, commercial vehicle operators, tricycle riders, and pedestrians to strictly obey all traffic regulations, emphasizing that compliance with traffic lights is critical to protecting lives and property.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Governor Yusuf announced that his administration would reposition the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) into a more professional and efficient traffic management institution dedicated to ensuring road safety, enforcing traffic laws, and promoting a culture of discipline among road users.
He said the agency would be strengthened with the necessary capacity and support to improve traffic control and ensure effective enforcement of road regulations throughout the state.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to building a safer, more orderly, and efficient transportation system, Governor Yusuf expressed concern over the persistent disregard for the newly installed traffic lights by some road users.
He noted that the multi-billion-naira traffic infrastructure was provided to enhance public safety and improve traffic flow, stressing that it must not be allowed to become a mere decorative feature due to public non-compliance.
“Traffic offenders should be closely monitored and punished by the relevant authorities to ensure that the equipment is not relegated to merely a city decoration,” the Governor warned.
Governor Yusuf assured residents that his administration would continue to implement measures aimed at improving road safety, strengthening traffic management, and ensuring that all road users comply with established traffic laws in the overall interest of the state.
