OUR MAJOR NOMINEE FOR THE DEPUTY GOVERNORSHIP POSITION IS MURTALA SULE GARO, THE 2 OTHER NOMINEES ARE MERELY SHADOW NOMINEES — HON. ALHASSAN ADO DOGUWA

By Habiba Abubakar Kano
A senior lawmaker and Chairman of the Northern Regional Caucus in the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has declared that Hon. Murtala Sule Garo is the consensus and substantive nominee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) legacy bloc for the position of Deputy Governor of Kano State.
In a detailed statement following a strategic stakeholders’ meeting in Kano, Doguwa said the decision was reached after broad consultations among key members of the legacy faction, under the leadership of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who presided over the session.
Doguwa commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what he described as a remarkable demonstration of political maturity and inclusiveness, noting that the Governor voluntarily allowed the legacy APC bloc to nominate a candidate for the Deputy Governorship position. He added that the Governor further strengthened internal cohesion by offering the group several strategic appointments, including three commissioner-designate positions—an approach he said is unprecedented in similar political realignments across the country.
According to the lawmaker, the meeting recorded a clear and overwhelming majority, with 27 out of 31 stakeholders endorsing Hon. Murtala Sule Garo as their preferred candidate. He noted that Garo’s emergence was not arbitrary but rooted in practical political considerations, including his previous role as the party’s Deputy Governorship candidate in the last general election, his extensive grassroots network across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State, and his broad acceptability among party elders and youth alike.
Doguwa also highlighted Garo’s political and administrative experience, describing him as competent, widely respected, and strategically positioned to assume the responsibilities of the office. He further pointed out that Garo’s origin from Gwarzo/Kabo Federal Constituency aligns with established political balancing considerations within the state.
While confirming that three names were formally submitted to comply with procedural directives, Doguwa maintained that the other two nominees were included only as symbolic or “shadow” candidates, insisting that the collective will of the legacy bloc firmly rests with Garo.
He therefore urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who holds the constitutional authority to make the final decision, to respect the overwhelming consensus and endorse Garo’s nomination in the interest of unity and political stability.
Reaffirming the group’s loyalty, Doguwa pledged the full support of the legacy APC members to the Governor’s administration and political future, particularly as the state looks ahead to the 2027 general elections. He expressed optimism that continued collaboration within the party would strengthen its position and ensure electoral success.
