Nigeria’s 2027 political battle has officially begun following the release of a comprehensive election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), fixing April 23, 2026, as the commencement date for party primaries nationwide.
According to the schedule, party primaries will run from April 23 to May 30, 2026, setting the stage for the emergence of presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly candidates across political parties.
Campaign Season Opens August 19
INEC further announced that campaigns for Presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on August 19, 2026, while Governorship and State Houses of Assembly campaigns will begin on September 9, 2026.
In compliance with electoral law, all campaigns must end 24 hours before Election Day.
