Governor Yusuf Hails Peaceful Kano Bye-Election, Praises INEC, Security Agencies
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the recent bye-election in the state, describing it as a significant step forward in Kano’s democratic development.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor applauded the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for ensuring a calm and credible electoral process.
Governor Yusuf said the smooth conduct of the poll underscored the growing political maturity of the people of Kano and the effectiveness of security measures deployed across affected constituencies.
The bye-election was held in Kano Municipal and Ungogo State Assembly constituencies to fill vacant seats in the Kano State House of Assembly.
He specifically appreciated residents of the two constituencies for their cooperation, discipline and commitment to peaceful participation throughout the exercise.
The governor also acknowledged the role played by political parties and stakeholders, singling out members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for adhering to electoral guidelines and avoiding actions that could have disrupted the process.
“For the first time in recent history, we witnessed an election free of crisis, use of weapons and any form of manipulation in Kano. This development aligns with our Kano First Agenda. The era of killing, maiming and disenfranchising voters is over,” Yusuf stated.
He added that the peaceful outcome demonstrates Kano State’s readiness to embrace issue-based politics grounded in dialogue, tolerance and respect for democratic principles.
Governor Yusuf further assured residents that his administration remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, regardless of political or religious affiliation. He pledged continued collaboration with electoral authorities and security agencies to ensure that future elections in the state remain transparent, credible and violence-free.
