2026 Hajj: Kano Begins Mandatory Medical Screening, Immunization for Pilgrims
Exercise targets 250 pilgrims daily as Board moves to ensure safe and hitch-free pilgrimage
The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced medical screening and immunization for intending pilgrims as part of early preparations for the 2026 Hajj exercise.
The exercise, which is mandatory for all prospective pilgrims from the state, was officially flagged off by the Director General of the Board, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle, at the Hajj Camp Clinic in Kano.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Matawalle stressed that the screening and immunization programme aligns with directives from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which requires all pilgrims to meet specific health standards before being granted Hajj visas.
He explained that the initiative is designed to assess the physical fitness of intending pilgrims and ensure they are medically fit to undertake the spiritual journey. According to him, the measure will also help prevent health complications during the pilgrimage and protect the overall wellbeing of participants.
The Director General disclosed that the exercise has been structured to accommodate 250 pilgrims daily. He added that participants are scheduled to attend the screening based on their respective Local Government Areas to guarantee an orderly and stress-free process.
Matawalle commended the medical personnel and administrative officials handling the exercise for their professionalism and dedication. He also urged intending pilgrims to comply fully with medical guidelines and cooperate with health workers throughout the screening and immunization process.
He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to delivering quality welfare services to pilgrims, assuring that adequate arrangements are being put in place to ensure a smooth and successful Hajj operation for all Kano State pilgrims.
The medical screening and immunization exercise is expected to continue in phases until all registered intending pilgrims in the state are attended to.
