Kwanar Barde Tragedy: Gov. Yusuf Orders Free Treatment for Survivors, Mourns Over 30 Dead

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed profound grief over the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of more than 30 people at Kwanar Barde in Gezawa Local Government Area, pledging immediate government support for survivors and bereaved families.

The fatal incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, involved a trailer reportedly heading towards Gujungu. According to available reports, the accident was allegedly caused by reckless driving, leaving dozens dead and several others with varying degrees of injuries.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf described the incident as heartbreaking and a monumental loss not only to the affected families but also to the entire Kano State.

The Governor extended his heartfelt condolences to families of the victims and offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the deceased. He also prayed for Allah’s comfort and strength for those grieving the loss of their loved ones.

Responding swiftly to the tragedy, Governor Yusuf directed the Kano State Ministry of Health to ensure that all victims currently receiving treatment in hospitals across the state are provided with free and comprehensive medical care without delay. The directive aims to ease the financial burden on affected families and ensure prompt and quality healthcare for survivors.

In addition, the Governor instructed the Office of the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs to urgently assess the scale of the disaster and develop immediate support measures for families of the victims.

While mourning the loss, Governor Yusuf used the opportunity to caution motorists, particularly operators of heavy-duty vehicles, against reckless driving. He stressed the need for strict compliance with traffic regulations to prevent avoidable road tragedies.

The Kwanar Barde accident adds to growing concerns over road safety across major transport routes in Kano State, with stakeholders increasingly calling for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved driver accountability.

Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash as emergency response teams remain engaged in assisting victims and their families.
