Tinubu Returns After Abu Dhabi Summit, Nigeria Inks Landmark Economic Deal with UAE
President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria following his participation in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2026), a global platform that convenes leaders to advance sustainable development and economic collaboration.
The President’s return was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by his spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, President Tinubu attended the high-level summit alongside key members of his cabinet, engaging in discussions aimed at strengthening international partnerships and promoting Nigeria’s economic priorities.
A major outcome of the visit was the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates. The agreement, concluded on the sidelines of the summit, is expected to deepen trade, investment, and economic cooperation between both countries, opening new opportunities across strategic sectors.
President Tinubu had departed Nigeria on December 28, 2025, on what his aides described as an end-of-the-year break. His participation in ADSW 2026 marked a return to active international engagement, underscoring the administration’s focus on diplomacy, sustainability, and economic growth.
The presidency noted that engagements from the Abu Dhabi summit align with Nigeria’s broader agenda to attract foreign investment, expand economic partnerships, and position the country as a key player in global sustainability conversations.
