NNPP Kano Central Leaders Distance Themselves from State Chairman, Appeal to Kwankwaso, Gov. Yusuf on APC Alignment
The leadership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano Central Senatorial District has publicly distanced itself from recent remarks credited to the Kano State Chairman of the party, Dr. Hashim Dungurawa, while making a passionate appeal to the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf over the political future of Kano State.
At a meeting of party stakeholders in Kano, the Kano Central NNPP leaders, led by their Chairman, Abdullahi Zubair Imam Abiya, said their position does not reflect the views earlier expressed by the state party chairman. They stressed that their stance is guided by what they described as the overriding interest of sustainable development and political stability for Kano State and Nigeria at large.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Imam Abiya explained that the Kano Central leadership has collectively resolved to call on Senator Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf to seek divine guidance in taking decisions that would best serve the people, including the possibility of aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC) if it would guarantee long-term development and progress.
“We believe that leadership is about making difficult decisions in the overall interest of the people. Our call is rooted in concern for sustainable development, unity, and political stability in Kano State and the country,” the chairman said.
Other key leaders who endorsed the position include Magaji Ibrahim, Assistant Welfare Secretary; Kamal Sani Maidaji, State Assistant Treasurer (DBT); Dr. Awaisu Ibrahim, Assistant Organising Secretary; and Yusuf Sagagi, Youth Leader for Kano Central. They jointly emphasized that their position was reached after wide consultations within the Kano Central NNPP structure.
The leaders clarified that their statement should not be misconstrued as an act of indiscipline, but rather as an expression of opinion within the democratic space of the party. They insisted that Kano Central NNPP members remain committed to peace, internal cohesion, and responsible political engagement.
According to them, any political alignment or realignment should be guided strictly by the need to accelerate development, improve governance, and enhance the welfare of the people of Kano State.
The development comes amid ongoing political discussions within the NNPP and the wider Kano political landscape, as stakeholders continue to weigh options ahead of future electoral contests.
The Kano Central NNPP leadership reiterated its loyalty to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, expressing confidence in their leadership and wisdom to take decisions that would secure a better future for the state.
