JUST IN: Bandits Kill Woman, Abduct Three in Kano Community
Panic has gripped Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State after dozens of armed bandits launched a late-night attack, killing an elderly woman and abducting three others.
The incident occurred around 11pm on Saturday when most residents had gone to bed, DAILY NIGERIAN reliably gathered.
According to multiple sources in the community, the attackers arrived on motorcycles but parked them on the outskirts of the village before proceeding on foot — a tactic aimed at avoiding early detection and muffling the sound of their approach.
Witnesses said the bandits moved from house to house, demanding money and searching for targeted victims. In one of the homes, an elderly woman was shot dead after pleading with the intruders to spare her son. The son was eventually taken away, along with two other villagers.
“Everybody was asleep when they came. They were many, heavily armed. They didn’t want anyone to hear the motorcycles, so they walked into the village,” one resident recounted.
The attackers reportedly spent several minutes operating without resistance, as the nearest security outpost is several kilometres away. By the time neighbours raised alarm, the bandits had already fled with their captives.
Local vigilante groups and security personnel were said to have arrived hours after the incident, but the perpetrators had vanished into nearby forests.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities are yet to issue an official statement. Meanwhile, fear has intensified across Tsanyawa and neighbouring communities, where residents say they have witnessed a gradual surge in bandit activity in recent weeks.
Efforts to rescue the abducted victims are ongoing.
