3 Killed as Bandits Launch Fresh Attacks on Kano Border Communities

Fresh attacks by suspected bandits on border communities between Kano and Katsina States have reportedly left no fewer than three persons dead.
The incident occurred late Friday evening when the gunmen, believed to have crossed from Katsina, invaded Yanganau village in Tsanyanwa Local Government Area of Kano State but were swiftly repelled by security personnel.
A credible source from Tsanyanwa, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attackers were believed to have come from Kogari in Musawa/Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
“The security was alerted around 5:30 p.m. As God will have it, the security agencies arrived on time and engaged the attackers. After several gunshots into the air, the bandits fled without killing or kidnapping anyone, and they didn’t rustle any livestock,” the source said.
However, after their failed attempt in Tsanyanwa, the gunmen reportedly moved towards Shanono Local Government Area, where three people were killed in a separate attack.
Residents say the incident has triggered tension across several border communities in Kano’s northwest, with many villagers fleeing their homes for fear of renewed assaults.
Efforts to reach the Kano State Police Command for confirmation were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report, but security sources in the area confirmed that patrols have been intensified along the Kano–Katsina border corridor to prevent further attacks.
