PDP Postpones Screening of Aspirants for National Convention
Party cites “unforeseen circumstances,” new date to be announced soon
A The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of the screening exercise for aspirants vying for various positions ahead of its 2025 Elective National Convention earlier scheduled to hold on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
In a statement released on Monday, the Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, said the decision became necessary due to what he described as “unforeseen circumstances.”
Governor Fintiri explained that a new date for the screening would be communicated in due course to all aspirants and party members, assuring that the development would not affect the overall timetable for the convention.
“The committee regrets any inconvenience the postponement might have caused our aspirants and stakeholders,” the statement added.
The screening exercise was expected to precede the much-anticipated national convention, where new national officers of the party will be elected amid ongoing efforts to reposition the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The postponement has sparked mixed reactions within the party, with some aspirants expressing understanding while others urged the leadership to avoid further delays to prevent disruptions to the convention schedule.
Political observers say the decision may be linked to intense internal consultations and efforts to build consensus among key blocs within the opposition party.
The PDP’s Elective National Convention is seen as a major test of unity for the party as it seeks to rebuild its national presence and reclaim power after years in opposition.
