The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has said President Bola Tinubu was working assiduously to address Nigeria’s public debt through a non-oil revenue drive.
This is even as the Speaker noted that public debt, if well utilised, can engender growth and development in any country.
He said Nigeria could leverage responsible borrowing for sustainable development as demonstrated by the Tinubu administration.
These were contained in a press release signed and issued by the Speaker’s media adviser, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, on Monday evening.
It was earlier reported that Abbas, represented at the event by the Leader of the House, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, warned that the country’s public debt profile, which totalled N149.39 trillion (US$97 billion) in the first quarter of 2025, if not checked, portends danger for the future.
