Governor Yusuf Inaugurates Shura Council to Tackle Societal Ills in Kano
KANO โ Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has inaugurated a newly constituted Shura Council charged with advising the state government on societal transformation, moral upliftment, and peaceful coexistence among citizens.
In a statement issued byย the Governorโs Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhamma. And made available to newsmen in Kano on Monday.
Governor Yusuf said the councilโs mandate is to work closely with his administration in addressing pressing challenges such as drug abuse and youth thuggery, while also guiding religious leaders to deliver sermons that promote harmony and tolerance.
Expressing appreciation to the Ulama for their contributions to Islamic propagation in Kano and beyond, the governor stressed their unique role in shaping moral values. He noted that unlike politicians, whose influence is limited by tenure, the Ulama and traditional rulers possess enduring authority to inspire positive societal change.
โThe promotion of Islam and the betterment of our state remain core priorities of the NNPP-led administration,โ Governor Yusuf affirmed, assuring council members of his governmentโs non-interference in religious matters.
Reflecting on Kanoโs history, he lamented the decline in the authority of traditional rulers and scholars, while expressing optimism that the Shura Council would help restore these values for the good of society.
The council is made up of respected Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, and representatives of the business community, with inclusivity ensured by involving members from all religious sects in the state.
In his acceptance speech, Wazirin Kano, Sheikh Saโad Shehu, thanked God for the opportunity to serve, acknowledging the weight of responsibility placed on the council and praying for divine wisdom to discharge their duties.
Earlier, the councilโs Secretary and Commissioner for Commerce, Investment and Industry, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, said members were selected based on merit, devoid of political influence.
