KSACA Takes Bold Steps to Enhance HIV/TB Services at Waziri Gidado Hospital
Kano State, the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA) has conducted an on-site assessment at Waziri Gidado Hospital. This initiative, led by Director General Dr. Usman Bashir and his management team, aims to address critical gaps in healthcare delivery for these pressing health issues.

The assessment followed discussions at the recent HIV/TB Technical Working Group meeting, where various challenges affecting the effective delivery of care were highlighted. Among the most pressing issues identified was the lack of functional x-ray services at Waziri Gidado Hospital. Although an x-ray machine had been donated to support the TB program at another facility, that location suffers from unstable power supply and insufficient manpower to operate the equipment. To optimize resources, KSACA is considering relocating the x-ray machine to Waziri Gidado Hospital, where power availability is more reliable.
Additionally, the KSACA team discovered that the HIV clinic at the hospital is not fully constructed, which presents significant barriers to service delivery. In response, KSACA plans to collaborate with the Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) and the Department of Physical Planning to design and construct a fully functional HIV-TB clinic on the hospital grounds. This partnership aims to create a sustainable solution that enhances healthcare access for patients.
During the visit, Dr. Bashir reiterated KSACA’s commitment to bridging the gaps in HIV and TB service delivery throughout the state. He emphasized that overcoming infrastructural and technical challenges is essential for improving the quality of care and ensuring that all clients receive the support they need.
This intervention marks a pivotal milestone in KSACA’s ongoing efforts to integrate HIV and TB services in Kano State, reinforcing the agency’s mission to ensure that no patient is left behind in the fight against these epidemics.
