President Bola Tinubu marked his two-year anniversary in office with a message to Nigerians, highlighting the progress his administration has made despite challenges. He thanked citizens for their patience and understanding, emphasizing that the worst effects of his reforms are behind the country.
Key Points from Tinubu’s Message
– *Economic Reforms:* Tinubu’s administration has stabilized the economy, positioning it for growth and resilience against global shocks. The economy is growing stronger, with a real GDP rise of 4.6% in Q4 2024 and full-year growth of 3.4%.
– *Tax Reform:* A new tax system aims to reduce multiple taxation, support small businesses, and promote economic justice. The tax-to-GDP ratio increased from 10% to over 13.5% in just one year.
– *Security Improvements:* The military has restored order in some areas of the northwest, previously controlled by bandits, allowing farmers to return to their lands. Security agencies have successfully rescued abducted citizens.
– *Human Capital Development:* Infrastructure investments and student loan schemes have expanded access to quality education. Over 1,000 Primary Health Centres are being revitalized, and six new cancer treatment centres are being established.
– *Infrastructure Development:* Major road projects are ongoing across all geopolitical zones, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
Tinubu acknowledged challenges, including rising poverty and high operating costs for small businesses, but remains committed to building a stronger, more inclusive Nigeria. He emphasized that his administration’s reforms were necessary to keep the country afloat and that the future is bright .
