Kano Pilgrims Board Raises Alarm Over Possible Hajj Airlift Delays, Seeks NAHCON Urgent Action
The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has expressed concern over potential delays in the airlift of intending pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj, calling on the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to take immediate and proactive steps to avert disruptions.
The appeal was made by the Director General of the Board, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle, during a courtesy visit by a NAHCON delegation to Kano. In a statement issued by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, Matawalle emphasized that while the state has completed all necessary logistical and administrative preparations, timely air transportation remains a critical factor for a successful Hajj operation.
He warned that any delay by air carriers could disrupt carefully planned schedules and subject pilgrims to avoidable hardship.
“We have put all necessary measures in place for our pilgrims and are optimistic that the airlift process will be conducted without hitches or delays,” Matawalle said, stressing the need for NAHCON’s swift intervention.
Responding, the leader of the NAHCON delegation and Commissioner representing the North-West Zone, Sheikh Muhammad Bin Usman, explained that the visit was part of an ongoing nationwide inspection of Hajj facilities. He noted that the commission is assessing the preparedness of states to ensure compliance with required standards for pilgrims’ comfort and safety.
Bin Usman assured the Kano Board that its concerns—particularly those relating to possible delays by airlines—would be communicated to the appropriate authorities at NAHCON headquarters for necessary action.
Also speaking, NAHCON’s Zonal Director for Kano, Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Kalgo, commended the Board for its high level of preparedness and organization. He urged officials to sustain efforts in educating and sensitizing intending pilgrims through comprehensive Hajj orientation programmes.
The development comes as preparations intensify nationwide for the 2026 Hajj, with stakeholders emphasizing the importance of seamless coordination to ensure a hitch-free pilgrimage.
