BREAKING: Former Kano APC Governorship Candidate Nasiru Gawuna Resigns from Party

A former Deputy Governor of Kano State and the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has officially resigned from the ruling party.

Gawuna, a prominent political figure in Kano, tendered his resignation in a letter dated March 29, 2026, addressed to the APC chairman of Gawuna Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area.

In the letter, he described his decision as “voluntary and personal,” without providing further details about the reasons behind his exit.

“I hereby formally resign my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective March 29, 2026,” the letter read in part.

Gawuna served as Deputy Governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023 and was the APC’s flag bearer in the 2023 gubernatorial election, where he lost to the candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

His resignation is expected to trigger political reactions within Kano’s political landscape, especially within the APC, where he remains a key figure with considerable grassroots influence.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the APC leadership regarding his resignation or possible next political move.
