Tension Ahead of Sallah as Kano Suspends Key Durbar Activities to Prevent Breakdown of Order

The Kano State Government has announced major adjustments to the traditional Durbar celebrations for the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr, citing credible intelligence reports suggesting possible attempts by some individuals to disrupt peace and public order during the festive period.

In a press statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the government said the decision was part of proactive measures aimed at preventing confusion, ensuring stability, and safeguarding lives and property across the state.

The administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reaffirmed its commitment to preserving Kano’s rich cultural heritage but stressed that maintaining law and order remains its foremost constitutional responsibility.

Revised Durbar Programme

Following consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other key stakeholders, the government approved a modified schedule for the Sallah festivities.

Under the new arrangement, the Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) will be conducted by the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II. The procession is expected to commence from the Kofar Mata Eid praying ground, proceed through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, and terminate at Kofar Fatalwa within the Emir’s Palace.

However, Hawan Nasarawa will take place in a modified form without horse riding, while Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been temporarily suspended in the interest of public peace and safety.

Security Agencies on High Alert

The government has directed all security agencies to intensify surveillance operations and ensure strict compliance with the new directives before, during, and after the festive period. Authorities also warned that any attempt to breach public peace would attract lawful consequences.

Residents have been urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security personnel, while also avoiding the spread of unverified information capable of escalating tension.

Assurance of Peaceful Celebration

The Kano State Government commended security agencies for their dedication and professionalism in maintaining stability and reassured the public of its readiness to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration.

It further extended advance Sallah greetings to Muslims, wishing them a joyous and spiritually fulfilling Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
