Saudi Arabia Announces Start of Ramadan 1447AH

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has officially announced the sighting of the Ramadan crescent, declaring that Wednesday, February 18, 2026, will mark the 1st of Ramadan 1447AH.
The announcement followed verified reports of the new moon sighting in accordance with Islamic tradition, signaling the commencement of the holy month for millions of Muslims within the Kingdom and in countries that align with Saudi Arabia’s declaration.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of fasting from dawn to sunset, intensified prayers, charity, and spiritual reflection. The month is also marked by special nightly Taraweeh prayers in mosques, including at the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
Religious authorities in Saudi Arabia congratulated Muslims on the beginning of the sacred month and urged worshippers to devote themselves to acts of worship, unity, and compassion.
Other countries are expected to announce their own confirmations based on local moon sightings, in line with established Islamic jurisprudential practices.
Ramadan is anticipated to conclude with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, subject to the sighting of the next crescent moon.
