Kebbi Police Arrest Suspected Lakurawa Collaborators, Recover Rifle, Ammunition, Illicit Drugs
Security operatives intensify crackdown on terrorism, banditry in border communities
The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested four suspected criminal collaborators and recovered arms, ammunition, and illicit drugs in a series of intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing terrorism and banditry in the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, highlighting what he described as a major breakthrough in the ongoing security operations across the state.
According to the statement, operatives attached to the Kangiwa Divisional Police Headquarters, acting on credible intelligence, arrested two suspects, identified as Hamza Aliyu and Aliyu Ahmadu, along the border axis on February 7, 2026. The suspects were allegedly involved in supplying logistics to members of the Lakurawa terrorist group.
During the operation, police reportedly recovered 31 parcels of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp from the suspects.
In a related development, operatives of the Command’s Special Tactical Team, working in collaboration with the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, arrested two other suspects, Sani Bature, popularly known as “Nage,” and Rabiu Bature, during a separate operation in Bagudo Local Government Area.
The joint operation led to the recovery of one AK-49 rifle, 611 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and a locally fabricated charmed bullet-proof vest believed to have been used by criminal elements.
SP Bashir confirmed that all suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, CP Umar Mohammed Hadeija, reiterated the Command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks and sustain the fight against violent crimes across the state.
He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing criminal activities.
The Kebbi Police Command has intensified surveillance and coordinated operations across border communities as part of broader efforts to strengthen security and protect lives and property in the state.
