Yahuza Ado Takes Charge as SON Council Chairman, Pledges to Boost Industrial Growth and Product Standards
The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has entered a new leadership phase following the inauguration of Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa as Chairman of its Standards Council, with a strong commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s industrial sector and enhancing product quality standards.
The inauguration ceremony was performed by the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment alongside the Honourable Minister of State, marking a significant step in the Federal Government’s efforts to reinforce regulatory oversight and promote industrial development.
In his inaugural address, Inuwa expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence placed in him, pledging to align his leadership with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He assured stakeholders of his readiness to collaborate with the ministry and SON management to strengthen Nigeria’s manufacturing base and increase the global competitiveness of locally produced goods.
The newly inaugurated chairman emphasized the critical role of standards in national development, describing them as essential tools for ensuring quality, protecting consumers, and driving industrial growth. He noted that strengthening standardisation would not only safeguard lives but also improve Nigeria’s access to international markets.
Inuwa also assured staff of the organisation of his commitment to their welfare, promising to work towards improved working conditions and enhanced motivation to boost productivity and efficiency within the agency.
He stressed the importance of collaborative leadership, modernisation, and strict enforcement of product standards, adding that these priorities would guide the council’s operations under his leadership.
“Standards are the silent architects of trust. They protect lives, ensure quality, drive industrialisation, open doors to international trade, and build national pride,” he stated.
The new chairman outlined plans to promote digital transformation within SON, strengthen stakeholder partnerships, and align Nigeria’s standardisation processes with global best practices to enhance export opportunities and support economic growth.
Industry observers say the appointment is expected to further reinforce SON’s mandate of regulating product quality, protecting consumers from substandard goods, and supporting Nigeria’s drive toward industrialisation and economic diversification.
The inauguration signals renewed momentum for the organisation as it intensifies efforts to ensure compliance with quality standards and promote the acceptance of Made-in-Nigeria products in both local and international markets.
