BREAKING: Mohammed Assumes Duty as PDP Acting National Chairman, Vows to Reposition Party Ahead of 2027
Abuja, Nigeria —Abdurrahman Mohammed Former Vice Chairman PDP North Central has officially assumed duty as the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pledging to reposition the opposition party for victory in the 2027 general elections.
His assumption of office followed a declaration by the Samuel Anyanwu-led National Working Committee (NWC), which named him acting chairman after suspending the party’s National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
The development comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the party, as the move was seen as a countermeasure to an earlier suspension of Anyanwu and others by the Damagum-led NWC.
In his maiden address, Mohammed promised to restore internal democracy, unity, and transparency within the PDP, saying the party must “reclaim its rightful place as the true voice of Nigerians.”
“Our great party has endured challenges before and emerged stronger. We will reposition the PDP ahead of 2027 to ensure Nigerians once again have a credible alternative,” he said.
The political tussle underscores the widening rift within the PDP’s top hierarchy, as both factions continue to assert control over the party’s structure.
