NIPR President Commends Governor Yusuf for People-Oriented Projects in Kano

The President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ike Neliaku, has applauded Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for what he described as a remarkable commitment to people-focused governance and sustainable development in the state.
Dr. Neliaku gave the commendation on Tuesday when he led members of the NIPR Governing Council on an inspection tour of key development projects executed by the Yusuf administration across the state. The visit was part of an assessment process to determine the governor’s qualification for investiture as a Patron of the Institute.
Speaking during the visit, the NIPR President said the council was impressed by the governor’s efforts in transforming infrastructure and improving the lives of citizens through inclusive and participatory governance.
“We are deeply impressed by the governor’s dedication to projects that directly impact the people and make them active participants in the state’s progress,”
Dr. Neliaku said.
“What we have seen today aligns perfectly with the core values of public relations, which emphasize mutual understanding, transparency, and service to the public.”
The NIPR delegation, in collaboration with the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, visited several project sites that highlight the administration’s focus on infrastructure renewal, economic empowerment, and youth development.
Inspecting Major Projects
At the Dan Agundi Flyover, Dr. Neliaku expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, noting that the project, upon completion, would significantly ease traffic congestion and enhance urban mobility in the city. He commended the governor for prioritizing infrastructural renewal, pledging to return for the project’s inauguration.
Accompanied by the Commissioner of Works, Engr. Marwan Ahmad, the NIPR team engaged project engineers and managers to discuss technical specifications, environmental considerations, and sustainability measures.
The delegation also inspected the multi-billion-naira Bulbula Erosion Control Project in Nassarawa Local Government Area, which has reached an advanced stage. The project is designed to mitigate flooding, prevent land degradation, and protect residential communities from erosion threats.
Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who briefed the team at the site, said the initiative would not only improve transportation and access to healthcare but also help reduce social vices such as drug abuse among youths by creating a safer and more functional environment.
Housing, Training, and Power Initiatives
At Kwankwasiyya City, the Managing Director of the Kano Housing Corporation, Alhaji Abdullahi Rab’u, took the NIPR team through the newly developed estate comprising over 500 modern housing units. He explained that the project was conceived to provide affordable housing for middle-income earners while ensuring high-quality urban planning standards.
Rab’u added that the government has put in place mechanisms to ensure that only occupants who fulfill their financial obligations retain their allocations, stressing accountability in public housing management.
The NIPR Council also visited the Gwarzo Garment Centre, where more than 100 young men and women are undergoing training in tailoring and garment production. The center, established under the state’s human capital development programme, aims to empower youths with entrepreneurial skills to promote self-reliance and job creation.
At Challawa/Goje Dama in Karaye Local Government Area, the delegation inspected the nearly completed 6-megawatt power plant. The Commissioner of Power, Dr. Gaddafi Sani Shehu, told the team that the plant would significantly improve electricity supply once operational, providing energy support for industrial and residential needs across Kano State.
Model of Transparent Leadership
Dr. Neliaku noted that Governor Yusuf’s developmental agenda goes beyond physical infrastructure to embrace social inclusion, transparency, and citizen engagement — principles that mirror the ethical standards of the NIPR.
“Governor Yusuf’s approach to governance is commendable because it integrates people’s needs into every stage of policy and project development,”
Neliaku said.
“This is leadership that listens, acts, and delivers with sincerity of purpose.”
He further disclosed that the NIPR Governing Council would deliberate on its findings and make recommendations regarding the governor’s investiture as a Patron of the Institute.
Neliaku emphasized that the visit also forms part of the Institute’s broader mission to recognize leaders who promote ethical communication, good governance, and positive engagement with citizens.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, in a statement, reaffirmed the administration’s determination to maintain accountability, transparency, and community participation in all government programmes.
He said Governor Yusuf remains committed to promoting the welfare of citizens, expanding access to quality infrastructure, and ensuring that Kano continues to serve as a model of progressive governance in Nigeria.
