Gawuna Assumes Office as Chairman, Board of Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Pledges Service and Strategic Leadership

His Excellency, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has formally assumed office as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), with a pledge to provide strategic leadership, uphold transparency, and foster collaborative growth in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking during the onboarding ceremony held at the Bank’s Board Room in Abuja, Dr. Gawuna expressed deep gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to serve the nation in such a critical capacity.

He also thanked President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him to lead the Bank’s Board at a time of increasing demand for affordable housing and sustainable urban development in Nigeria

“I consider it a rare privilege and opportunity—as well as a daunting task—to give strategic direction and help guide the vision and mission of this noble organization,” Gawuna stated.

He commended the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development for overseeing the Bank’s operations and acknowledged the efforts of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer and his executive management team. Dr. Gawuna praised their achievements over the past year, expressing optimism that the newly inaugurated Board would build upon these successes to reach even greater heights.

Reflecting on the essence of leadership, Dr. Gawuna emphasized that leadership is more about service and stewardship than titles or positions. He pledged to follow in the footsteps of past leaders who laid a solid foundation for the Bank, promising to lead with integrity, openness, and dedication.

“We live not only in a time of rapid changes and great challenges, but also one of immense opportunities,” he said. “Our organization is uniquely positioned to respond with innovation, resilience, and purpose.”

He further outlined his vision to promote a culture of collaboration within the Bank, encouraging open dialogue, bold thinking, and diverse perspectives. According to him, the Board will work closely with executive management to ensure decisions are aligned with the Bank’s values and national priorities, especially in the housing sector.

“As Chairman, my priority will be to foster a culture that drives innovation and excellence. Together, we will listen carefully, act responsibly, and lead courageously to make a positive impact,” Gawuna assured.

The new Chairman concluded his remarks with a call to action, urging Board members and staff to move forward with unity of purpose and a shared commitment to delivering quality service to Nigerians.

Gawuna reaffirmed his commitment to making a positive impact in the housing sector, in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The onboarding event was attended by distinguished members of the newly constituted Board, senior management staff of the Bank, and other dignitaries.
