The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has cautioned a civil group, “Take It Back Movement,” against holding a planned nationwide protest scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, describing the timing as “mischievous” and “ill-advised.”
According to a press statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the protest coincides with the newly declared National Police Day — a day set aside by the Federal Government to honour the contributions of the police to national security.
“The rationale behind staging a nationwide protest on the same day is however questionable and perceived to be a deliberate attempt and unpatriotic act that is capable of rubbishing and maligning the image of the Nigeria Police and the nation as a whole,” the statement read.
While acknowledging the constitutional right of Nigerians to peaceful assembly, the Police expressed concern over the motive of the protest organizers, especially as dignitaries including foreign diplomats and former Inspectors-General of Police are expected to attend the National Police Day events.
